Where's Waldo?

Today Neil is running the ultra marathon at Waldo Lake. It's a grueling 62.5 miles long of difficult mountain terrain! They started at 5 am and right now (9:23 am) he's in 6th place.

Last year he missed this race because of our reunion at Heber Valley. Quite a sacrifice I think, as he probably wanted to defend his record from the year before when he earned the course record for masters in 10:02:39. Most of us were there to support him. The Dodges, Andrei, and we were camping at Waldo Lake. Here's a picture of him crossing the finish line which I didn't actually see because as usual, he came in earlier than he predicted he would!

I'll post the results later. Right now, I'm just keeping him in my prayers.

Postscript: He came in 13th overall, 10th in the men, 3rd in his age group. 11 hours and 37 minutes. Hope he gives us details in his blog.

Our vacation: Part 3 in Bend

We went out to the dirt patch. Grandpa had a ball cooking foil dinners and a cherry chocolate dutch oven dessert.

Jonathan was working on the storage containers he has buried.

We walked the Butte twice with Sheryl (she ran part of the way).

Our vacation: Part 2 in Utah

Brenda and her kids were there too and the 5 little girls had a ball. Here they're trying to see how many sox they can fit onto one foot.

We went to the park for free lunch.

We spent an afternoon with my sisters and drove to Camp Floyd where we had a picnic in the park.

There was a museum. Johnston's Army camped there.

Gail also made a lovely dinner for all of us. Grant has been at BYU for six weeks at a papyrology seminar. At our request he gave us an impromptu lecture about the facsimiles in the Pearl of Great Price. They are actually common funerary papers buried with the dead to help them in the afterlife. The depiction is of Osiris (god of death) rather than Abraham. The knife was just drawn in to represent the attempted sacrifice of Abraham. Joseph actually wrote the Book of Abraham by revelation like he did the Book of Moses rather than translate it from the papyrus.
