At our stake Relief Society Women's Conference today Emily was asked to be one of the presenters. Her topic was written on the board (Setting Goals in Life), but she started out by kicking off her high heels and saying we weren't going to talk about that. She erased it and wrote Marathoning 101. She talked about how to prepare for a marathon and then compared it with setting goals in life.
These are the notes I took:
Set meaningful, challenging goals. Pray to decide on righteous toals. He knows better what we need to accomplish. He's also our #1 fan. Goal-setting is an act of faith. Have a positive attitude--know you're a child of God.
She quoted from The Alchemist by Coelho--there's no such thing as fate. We create our own destinies. And she quoted Steve Prefontaine: "To give anything less than our best is to sacrifice the gift."
Time is our most precious resource. How much do I want this? what do I have to give up to achieve it? You'll never be perfect. Keep trying. Keep getting better.
She invited us to stop doing the one thing we shouldn't be doing and write it down. On the other side of the card write down the one thing you should be doing. Then do it! "We were made to do hard things."
I was proud of my granddaughter! I also set a goal to be less judgmental. Instead to pray for patience and understanding.
