Conversation with Curtis

Last night Curtis called and wanted to talk to me. We talked over an hour. He did most of the talking. He said he was bored. His homework was done and it was dark outside so he couldn't go out. I was happy to talk with him.
The most recent picture I have of Curtis

His voice is deepening. He has learned how to carry on a conversation by asking leading questions. He asked my favorite place to go in Corvallis! (Bald Hill) Which was my favorite store. (Michael's)

He told me how he likes New Hampshire and what he misses about Bend. He misses his big bedroom and a kind of pop you can get there but not in NH. He likes his big yard in Litchfield. He has made some friends. He misses an aid in Bend who would take him rafting every summer. He misses a certain kind of Skittles in orange packaging that is unavailable there and I should look for it here. I would say he's adjusted pretty well to his new home.

He reminisced quite a bit. He remembered a time in Corvallis when he was upset because Grandpa had beat him at chess. He was pouting and he said Grandpa rubbed his back and gave him a chocolate coin and then he felt better. And then they went to Bi-Mart and he found some Mellow Yellow and it made it all better! He remembered the bouncey balls he had, but he doesn't collect them any more.

He said he thought it would be great when you get old and retired and didn't have to do anything. He asked me if I thought it was good to be old and retired. I said it was fine but you couldn't do as much as you used to but that I liked to do things so that's why we're on this mission. He said, "That's right, you're in Illinois." He said looking back on it, he liked seeing the church history sites on his way to New Hampshire.

It was refreshing to talk with a young man who can reason, reminisce and ruminate with his old grandma. I appreciated that he was interested in me and my opinions.

I didn't know he talked to you. I'm glad you had a great conversation. They are becoming more two-sided:)

That sounds like a fun phone call! I am glad you were there to answer when he called, what a great memory for both of you.

Grandma, you're not old! I think you do more stuff than I do most days.
I'm so proud of Curtis for how grown up he is getting!
